Are you up to a new challenge? VIB Hackathon is designed to challenge you in a field that is hard to compete. If you think you are best of the best, then this is perfect for you. VIB Digital is looking for top tiered Programmers, Developers and Data Scientists to create ideas, build platforms and/or data models.
About Vietnam International Bank
Vietnam International Commercial Joint Stock Bank, abbreviated as Vietnam International Bank (VIB), is one of the leading joint stock banks in Vietnam. For more than 24 years, VIB has achieved significant development and prominent milestones.
Established on 18th September 1996, VIB started its operation with initial charter capital of VND50 billion and 23 staffs. Until 31/12/2020, the charter reached over VND11,000 billion, while its shareholder’s equity reached VND17,972 billion and total assets were VND244 trillion.
Currently, VIB has more than 9,400 employees serving nearly 3 million customers at 165 branches and transaction offices in 27 key provinces/ cities across the country.
Hackathon Timeline
- Round 1 - 15 Apr to 10 May: Participants join as individuals or as a team (2- 4 members) and submit an idea to decode the challenges. They can choose between two tracks: Datarathon or Codevolution or join both. The submission can be in format of a presentation, a prototype or a running functions. VIB will select 10 teams with the best idea to go to round 2.
- Round 2 – 15 May to 25 May: Within 10 days, 10 teams turn their initial ideas into real functions/models under VIB’s training and coaching.
- Round 3 - June 5th - 9:00AM - 5:30PM: VIB will host a finale where top 10 teams directly present and protect for their solution. VIB will also select the winners right after the finale.

Track 1: Datarathon

VIB wants to come up with an innovation for making use of their existing data to improve the mobile banking customer experience. VIB is excited about the out-of-the-box ideas that can determine factors that make our customers leaving the MyVIB mobile application.
Round 1: (Use Python or R):
- Provide a Word/PDF document in which clearly demonstrates:
Definition of customers who leave MyVIB application based on given dataset. - Brief proposal describing some Data Preprocessing strategies (involving Feature engineering, if any) and Functionality in Data Mining (E.g. Regression, Classification, Clustering, so forth). Give appropriate reasons.

Evaluation matrix:
- Understanding business context in a correct way.
- Give a clear and appropriate definition of customers who leave MyVIB application based on our dataset.
- Appropriately perform exploratory data analysis with best Feature engineering.
- A brief model proposal which describes which functionality in data mining (e.g. regression, classification, clustering, and so forth) you use.
Round 2:
- 1 PPT for visualization presentation.
- 1 Word/PDF for detailed data mining process, including Exploratory Data Analysis, Data Preprocessing, Data Mining methodologies and Performance Evaluation (Give appropriate reasons for your choices). All your code script files (.py, .R).
Evaluation matrix:
- A comprehensive documentation which expresses your data mining process in detail, including the algorithm you employ.
- An informative visualization which can be deliverable to persons who are not expertised in data science.
- Criteria: determine factors and quantify their effect, depending the model and functionality you use. For example, if you use classification algorithms, we will base on Accuracy and Recall ratios. If you use regression algorithms, we will check the model prediction performance.
- We will rank in the descending order the models based on their appliability, interpretability, and performance.
Track 2: Codevolution

Based on cutting-edge technologies available on latest smartphones... Create your own feature that would help to solve provided problems. Either it is personalized onboarding journey, AR interfaces or sensor-supported payment features, your idea help build the best experience to acquire and retain customer.
Round 1:
Submit proposal solution/ideas:
- Using docs/powerpoint/Excel file that describle your solution/ideas.
- Using wireframe or Prototype for UI/UX

- Practical application
- Applied technology
- Quality of functional flow/ user flow
Round 2:
- Build the feature on your comfortable platforms: iOS, Android, Cross platform (Recommend iOS - Android)
- Use Any architectures by your strength: MVC, MVP, MVVM, VIPER (Recommend MVVM)
- Send all source code project with guideline for project structure, building app... and activity diagram for features
- Send video demo (simulator or real device), presenting file (Powerpoint)
Evaluation matrix:
- Plus more from Round 1
- Effective/Performance/Finishing ratio of your feature/module of application
- Docs/Source code is clear, understand easily
- Presentation skills where you show confidence in sharing your ideas & demostrating the features
